FRÄULEIN SMILLAS GESPÜR FÜR SCHNEE

Der sechsjährige Inuit-Junge Jesaja stürzt vom Dach eines Wohnhauses in Kopenhagen. Für die Behörden ist es ein Unfall, doch der Naturwissenschaftlerin Smilla Jaspersen, die mit Jesaja befreundet war und wie er aus Grönland stammt, erzählen die Spuren im Schnee etwas anderes… Sie beginnt, akribisch Nachforschungen anzustellen und stößt auf merkwürdige Ungereimtheiten im Zusammenhang mit dem Tod seines Vaters während einer Grönlandexpedition einige Jahre zuvor. Gibt es etwa einen Zusammenhang zwischen den beiden Todesfällen? Auf der Suche nach Antworten gerät die Expertin für Schnee und Eis zunehmend selbst in die Schusslinie. Die Spur führt Smilla schließlich in das „Ewige Eis“, wo sie mit den Folgen wissenschaftlicher Experimente am Rande einer Naturkatastrophe konfrontiert wird. Fräulein Smillas Gespür für Schnee erzählt vom skrupellosen Ausverkauf der Natur und einer starken Frau auf der Suche nach der Wahrheit. Ein fesselnder Thriller, der aktueller kaum sein könnte.

»I am quite surprised how current is Peter Hoeg’s novel written 1992. Bille August’s film adaptation of 1997 focused on the suspence curve, this theater version on the novel’s polemic messages. “The Dramatic Starting Point”, which last year had great success with their staging of Knud Romer’s ‘Den som blinker er bange for døden’, has staged the book as equal parts punk concert and detective story.
